Acetone: Acetone is a common industrial solvent. It occurs naturally in our bodies and is also chemically synthesized. Most of us come in contact with acetone from nail polish and stain removers.
Pregnant women should avoid contact with acetone and acetone fumes in order to avoid the possibility of birth defects, which include brain damage. Kidney, liver, and nerve damage, increased birth defects, and lowered reproduction ability of males occurred in chronically exposed animals. It is not known if these same effects would be exhibited in humans.
Breathing the acetone vapors should be avoided and it can also be absorbed through the skin. Always use goggles when handling acetone as it can cause permanent eye damage called corneal clouding.
