The Diaper Debate: Disposables

Choosing between cloth and disposable diapers can be an agonizing decision.

Take me for example. When I was pregnant, I was sure I’d use cloth. My husband – an ever-determined realist and laundry loather – didn’t know why cloth still existed, let alone why it was in vogue. The daycare we chose wouldn’t take cloth and instead swayed us toward a compostable diaper.

As if this wasn’t enough, when my daughter finally arrived she decidedly had her own agenda. After much trial and error, we discovered her bottom preferred a certain kind of disposable, especially overnight.

Thus, we are a diaper hybrid family

Seven months into babyhood bliss, we are still figuring things out. We use a combination of cloth & compostable diapers during the day and earth-friendly Bambo Nature disposables overnight.

Everyone seems to have a diaper agenda of their own

Cloth diapering routines may be best for the environment and best for your baby – or they may not be. Many studies suggest that the overall impact of cloth diapers is dependent on which ones you use, how you wash and dry your cloth diapers, and whether you reuse them for multiple children.

More than 90 percent of baby bottoms are in disposable diapers

In many ways, disposables are more practical and versatile than their cloth counterparts. But, unfortunately, there are hidden dangers in many brands that you definitely should be aware of before your next purchase.

Most everyday disposables and even some “green” disposables contain

Bleach, Petroleum, Phthalates, Dyes, Dioxins & Artificial fragrances

We’ve done extensive and exhaustive research on the best diaper for baby and the environment and have found, along with the Baby Gear Lab, that Bambo Nature Diapers are the best disposable by far. Bambos are super absorbent, ultra soft, and don’t contain any harmful or dangerous chemicals. They are no doubt the softest diaper I’ve encountered as a new mom, and they handle just about any mess my daughter throws at them.

Bambo diapers are considered one of the very best disposable diapers in the world. They are 100% free of:

Phthalates

Organotins (MBT, DBT, TBT),

Heavy metals

Chlorine

HCHO (formaldehyde)

Colophonium

AZO-pigments

PVC

Bambo diapers are gentle on baby and on the earth

They are approximately 80% biodegradable and 99% compostable.

  1. I loved how much softer Bambo diapers are and the size is much roomier than the comparable size with the other diapers my son wears. I really liked these & would definitely use them again!!
